About Us
The
Radford University Family Association meets twice each year.
The RU Family Association will
meet twice each year - once in the fall during Family Weekend and once
during the spring at RU Family Association Day. During these meetings,
the association will meet briefly as a large group and then meet in
subcommittees. Guest speakers may include administrators, faculty
members, students, and coaches who discuss various aspects of college
life.
There are five
subcommittees of the Radford University Family Association.
Members of the RU Family
Association will have the opportunity to serve on one of five
subcommittees:
1. Event planning
2. New student programs and
outreach
3. Student Life
4. Career development
5. Recruitment
Ways families can partner
with Radford University.
Become a family
encourager. The students at RU are drawn from many diverse
backgrounds and represent a variety of interests, abilities, and
personalities. Entering a completive and diverse university environment
for the first time can be difficult for students and their families.
There are many adjustments that families may encounter. Student success
at RU depends not only on the student, but also on family support.
Move-In-Day and the first few
days is a great time to be involved. As a new family encourager, you
would volunteer on these days to be helpful to families who are
struggling with college transition.
Become a volunteer with
programs and events. The RU Family Association will have two
annual events that will support their partnership with RU.
Family Weekend in the fall and
RU Family Association Day in the spring are planned to acknowledge the
importance of current student families on the educational process.
Homecoming and the Highlander
Festival and other events are great opportunities to get involved at RU.
Become a parent
volunteer recruiter. Parents of students who are having a good
experience can be an effective resource for prospective parents. They
can have a presence at RU meetings, events, and admission efforts in
their home area. They may be called upon to assist the admission office
to attract quality students to RU through personal contact via email,
telephone, or letter writing.
Career development.
The RU Family Association can support career development by serving on
conference panels and offering to speak with interested students about
careers. Members can also be helpful in referring companies and
businesses to recruit students on campus.
